Custard Apple 'Convis'

  • Product number: 822882.1
  • Origin: North America
  • Latin: Asimina triloba

Convis produces large fruits averaging 400g and has strikingly yellow and very aromatic flesh. Ripening occurs in early October. Use another variety as a pollinator.

Fortunately, this fruit tree from North America and Canada, which is quite winter hardy here, is becoming increasingly known and popular. The taste of the elongated, yellow-green fruits is truly exotic, leaning towards banana, mango, and pineapple, and they are packed with vitamins. So healthy, in fact, that there are serious indications of cancer prevention. At least 2 plants are needed for cross-pollination. Young plants prefer shade and need a bit of extra winter protection; later, full sun is also fine, and they can withstand a harsh winter. Eventually, they reach a height of 2-5m; pruning is recommended to prevent even higher growth! The tree's structure is slightly taller than it is wide, so in the long run, a tree circle of 3-4 meters is advisable. Maintain a minimum distance of 4m between 2 trees. The first fruits can be expected after about 4 years, preceded in spring by strangely fragrant, white to reddish-brown discolouring flowers. They do not appreciate sea wind, but they do highly value slightly acidic soil (on clay soil, ensure plenty of humus) and a layer of mulch. No disease infestations have been reported in our climate yet, but there isn't much experience.
