Very hardy climber with vigorous growth. The sweet fruits are much smaller than its large hairy brother and the skin is smooth. They have an even higher vitamin C content than the common kiwi. 'Issai' is a Japanese variety, is quite well self-pollinating and yields its first (modest) harvest after only a few years! Planting a male kiwi alongside it does, however, increase the chances of good pollination; we observe that this variety is "declining" somewhat in terms of pollen content... Due to its smaller leaves, it is also very resistant to sea wind.
