Juniper 'Man'

Our only native conifer! The common juniper is a special, evergreen shrub that grows best in a sunny spot in sandy, not too acidic soil.

Please note: this is a female plant. For pollination and the formation of berries, you need a male juniper nearby. In nature, it is sometimes just a matter of luck that male and female plants are close enough to each other, but with a male plant nearby you can ensure good pollination yourself.

The berries are very popular as a flavouring in distilled spirits, but are also used in marinades for game and to flavour sauerkraut. The leaves can, for example, be used when grilling fish.

In addition, several medicinal uses of the common juniper are known. Not all of these uses are scientifically proven, so always be careful with them.

Please note: juniper bushes can suffer from rust fungi. These are often recognisable by the dying off of branches. The fungus can then spread to pear trees in the area.
