Hazelnut 'Tonda di Giffoni' / 'Tonda di Giffoni'

  • Product number: 822312.1
  • Origin: Europe
  • Latin: Corylus avellana

Both 'Nottingham Fruehe' and the Italian variety (from Salerno) 'Tonda di Giffoni' produce a good yield of slightly oval-round, fairly large nuts at a relatively young age. The harvest time is early, usually in September. We typically only stock one of these two similar varieties. Plant at least 2 different varieties for good pollination. Hazelnuts thrive in moisture-retaining, yet airy soil.

Hazelnut bushes produce hazelnuts, a well-known and healthy nut often associated with chocolate! The ripe nuts fall naturally from the bush (in September), so pick them up regularly. Hazelnut bushes grow into large shrubs, which can be kept open with some pruning. Give the bushes a spacing of 2-3 m from each other. Both male and female inflorescences grow on one plant; they are wind-pollinated. Self-pollination is unfavorable, so cross-pollination is necessary.
