Hazelnut 'Cosford' / 'Nocchione'

  • Product number: 822300.1
  • Origin: Europe
  • Latin: Corylus avellana

Both ‘Cosford’ and ‘Nocchione’ produce fairly large nuts with a very fine flavour. We usually only stock one of these two similar varieties. Plant at least two different varieties for good pollination. Hazelnuts prefer moist but well-drained soil.

Hazel trees produce hazelnuts, a well-known and healthy nut that is often paired with chocolate. The ripe nuts fall from the bush on their own (in September); pick them up regularly. Hazelnuts grow into large bushes that can be kept open with some pruning. Allow a space of 2–3 m between the bushes. Both male and female flowers grow on the same plant, but they are wind-pollinated. Self-pollination is undesirable, so cross-pollination is necessary.
