Paeonia lactiflora ‘Flame’

(1939) Striking in many ways: a vibrant orange-red colour, single-flowered with a visible centre, and blooms very early, from mid-May. The plant is also exceptionally sturdy, reaching a height of 80 cm after a few years.

After years of experience in the Netherlands, our grower has put together a TOP assortment of the most beautiful and successful peonies.

They grow in all types of soil:
In clay, growth is trouble-free; do not over-fertilise and ensure good drainage.
In sandy soil, the plants remain somewhat smaller; sufficient fertilising keeps the plant healthy.
In peat soil, growth is generally good, but the plants will need to be transplanted or replaced slightly earlier.

Place peonies in a sunny spot and plant them (immediately upon arrival) so shallowly that only a few centimetres of soil cover the buds; firm the soil first.
We supply bare roots; each plant has been growing for 4–5 years, so the chance of early flowering is high! Some varieties grow into their intended (double) form as they get older. Colours may vary slightly from year to year and depend on the preceding winter cold. Because we have to wait for the plants to die back naturally, the bare roots are available EARLIEST FROM OCTOBER.
