ORGANICALLY GROWN.
Yellow-white Jerusalem artichoke that flowers in August/September and ripens early. Harvestable from the second half of October. Height approximately 2 meters. The harvest isn't massive, but the tubers are. The large tubers are elongated and not as irregular in shape, making them perfect for cooking. This variety produces few long runners with small tubers, so it's not an invasive spreader. Gigant is guaranteed to bloom every year from July or August.
NOTE: PLANT IMMEDIATELY UPON ARRIVAL OF TUBERS. THEY HAVE LIMITED SHELF LIFE ABOVE GROUND!
The Jerusalem artichoke is a very robust, winter-hardy vegetable. Plant the tubers at the edge of your vegetable garden. The plant can grow up to 2m tall; use it as a windbreak but also consider its shade. They can be pruned back halfway through the growing season for more compact growth and to prevent toppling, though this will slightly reduce the harvest. In late autumn, you can harvest the tasty tubers, which even taste good raw. Planting distance 75 x 30 cm requires 1.5 - 2 kg for 10 m². Tip: place a blanching pot over the plant in spring for tender, blanched first growth! Blanched, cooked, or finely chopped in a fresh spring salad, this vitamin-rich crop tastes bitter yet sweet. Add a pinch of salt during preparation to prevent a rather bitter taste.
WE DO OUR BEST TO MAINTAIN THE OPTIMAL QUALITY OF THE JERUSALEM ARTICHOKES. BECAUSE THEY ARRIVE IN DECEMBER, SOME OF THE TUBERS MAY DETERIORATE FROM MARCH ONWARDS. FIRST, SOAK THE TUBERS (IF NECESSARY) IN WATER, THEN CUT AWAY BAD PARTS AND PLANT.
THE CONTENT OF 1 KG (AT FILLING) MAY DECREASE OVER TIME (UP TO 50-60%); AFTER SUBMERSION, THE TUBER WILL REGAIN A PORTION OF ITS ORIGINAL WEIGHT.
