The name of this shallot means "fiery": due to its slow growth (and excellent shelf life!) it develops a full flavor that (raw) can even tingle with fire... The bulbs are slightly elongated, with a coppery-bronze skin and pinkish-white inside.
Shallots belong to the onion family and, like garlic, grow into a cluster of "cloves." The white interior is sometimes streaked with red and/or purple. They have a strong, rich flavor. Shallots cause fewer digestive and respiratory problems than onions and garlic. Many recipes and facts can be found at www.shallot.com
