Pineapple Groundcherry 'Coztomatl'

  • Product number: 004790
  • Origin: Not applicable / Not known
  • Latin: Physalis coztomatl

One of the tastiest, healthiest, but also most unknown members of the Physalis family. The plants only grow to 40-60 cm high; after flowering, the lanterns with the very aromatic and sweet, orange-yellow berries develop. The taste is a mix of persimmon, melon and tomato with a slight bitterness. The Aztecs used this species as a medicine; it is striking that this is one of the few Physalis species in which the medicinal Labdane diterpenes are found. The fruits fall off by themselves when ripe. Unripe fruits can be stir-fried.
