402480-1
Potatoes 'Seville'

ORGANICALLY GROWN POTATOES.
We were allowed to give away this potato from Niek Vos for free in 2016 for people to try. Many sent us positive feedback, so the decision to include this variety (formerly known as 'Vos-2006') was not difficult! Although the potato can also be harvested very well early (and then has a wonderfully firm texture), the flavour becomes fuller and more complex with proper ripening. Most notably is its very high resistance to Phytophthora (late blight), making organic cultivation of this variety very feasible. For professionals, it's important to know that this variety requires little nitrogen. Its versatility is striking; it doesn't rot quickly during extreme rainfall, and breeders in Seville (Spain) noticed that the harvest was high despite drought stress, making it very suitable for warm countries.
In short: Sevilla is a beautiful yellow-fleshed potato with a smooth skin and good flavour. The yield is large, they harvest close to the plant, and they store very well. This clay potato also grows well on sandy soil. It is a slightly floury potato, so it doesn't fall apart when cooked and fries excellently. By the way: harvested early, they are much firmer, if you prefer that...
Niek chose the name Sevilla because the city of Seville was the port city around 1500 where the potato first arrived from South America.
A customer reported to us: Very satisfied with Sevilla potato. Good flavour and consistency. Grown on peat colonial fen soil, it produces a very floury, delicious potato. I have tried many Phytophthora-resistant potato varieties, but this one takes the crown!

MAIN CROP ORGANIC VARIETY.
Because the potato plant stores many absorbed substances in its tubers, it is important for the principled organic grower to have "clean" organic starting material. A main crop variety means it can be harvested from September. Early planting can advance the harvest by several weeks. Planting time is from mid-April, when the soil has sufficient warmth. Pre-sprouting in light or in a large pot can be done earlier. Do not place them in too wet a spot, but in full sun. Main crop varieties can suffer from the dreaded potato disease (Phytophthora infestans). Some preventive measures include: planting widely, fertilizing with patentkali, not spraying water over the plant, and possibly organic spraying with sulfur or silinal. The average planting distance is 70x40 cm, but we recommend 80x40 cm to prevent diseases.

Denominations:
Latin: Solanum tuberosum
Dutch: Aardappel
English: Potato
