Because of this fresh scent, people used to place dried sweet clover between their clothes. Please note: in moldy hay, coumarin can be converted into toxic coumarol or even dicoumarol; these are blood-thinning substances that can cause, sometimes even fatal, bleeding in animals that eat this hay.
