This strawberry originally comes from Southeast Asia and grows there at high altitudes in mountain ranges. Fragaria nilgerrensis is a rare, botanical, ancient species with very attractive characteristics. The plants produce rather round, white to soft pink fruits with striking, deep-set red seeds.
Because the small fruits protrude firmly above the leaves, they will almost never rot. The white pulp melts on the tongue and has a wonderfully intense perfume with surprising fruit notes of apricot, peach and banana. Transport carefully after picking!
In addition, this wild variety is incredibly strong, very winter hardy and the plant has excellent natural resistance to leaf and root diseases. Thanks to the rapid formation of runners, it is also an ideal, weed-suppressing and edible ground cover.
