Our only native conifer! You need a male and female plant. In nature, you'd be lucky if they grow in each other's "wind proximity," but we offer them as a pair! They grow best in sandy soil, but not too acidic. In the Netherlands, the shrub has been legally protected since 2017. The berries are very popular as a flavouring for distilled spirits, but also in marinades for game or to flavour sauerkraut. You can use the leaves when grilling fish. Many medicinal effects of the juniper berry are also known, not all of which have been proven, so always be careful!
Please note: if the bushes get rust fungus (often recognisable by branches dying off), they will also infect pear trees in the vicinity.
