Hazelnut ‘Halle’sche Riesen’ / ‘Fertile de Coutard’

  • Product number: 822305.1
  • Origin: Europe
  • Latin: Corylus avellana

Both 'Halle'sche Riesen' and 'Fertile de Coutard' are strong-growing varieties, very productive with large, shiny nuts. We usually only have 1 of these 2 similar varieties in stock. Plant at least 2 different varieties for good pollination. Hazelnuts prefer moist, but airy soil.

Hazelnut bushes produce hazelnuts, a well-known and healthy nut, often associated with chocolate! The ripe nuts fall from the bush naturally (in September), so pick them up regularly. Hazelnut bushes grow into large shrubs, which can be kept open with some pruning. Give the bushes 2-3 m of space between them. Male and female inflorescences grow on one plant; they are wind-pollinated. Self-pollination is unfavorable, so cross-pollination is necessary.
