Sea Buckthorn, Female 'Leikora' Small

  • Product number: 822023
  • Origin: Europe, Asia
  • Latin: Hippophae rhamnoides

'Leikora' is a fertile, female variety. Undervalued for centuries but now finally (permanently?) on the map! This pioneer of the dunes actually grows on all soils, though naturally predominantly on calcareous soil. Plant one male plant for every 3-6 female shrubs. They pollinate each other by wind, so place them close together! After the inconspicuous flowering, the (branches full of) berries appear in an orange-yellow colour. Both the leaves, but especially the berries, are very healthy and contain much more vitamins than citrus fruits such as oranges! Make juice, elixir or jam from them, do not pick them too ripe due to alcohol formation, as they can still hang on the bush in February...

Names:
Latin: Hippophae rhamnoides
Dutch: Duindoorn, Vrouwelijk
Also: Duinroos
