With illustrations by Pic (Denis Lelièvre) and the story by “Karel de Tuinman” (text by Karel Schelfhout and Michiel Panhuysen), the essence of gardening is captured: pleasure! For the reader, first of all, the pleasure of reading: very informative, up-to-date, and full of humor. And then the pleasure of cultivation, seeing growth, harvesting, tasting, and finally the satisfying realization that you are protecting the earth.

Karel Schelfhout has been an authority in horticulture for over thirty years. He has played a significant role in spreading the high-quality horticultural techniques developed in the Netherlands and ultimately chose organic cultivation.

Michiel Panhuysen, a journalist with publications in various languages, specializes in organic farming and urban horticulture.

Festive handbook for growing perfect vegetables without chemicals

These are just five of the thirty types of fertilizer listed in the humorous and energetic handbook Organic Growing in Comic Form. It is an adaptation of the bible for organic cultivation by Karel Schelfhout and Michiel Panhuysen, The Organic Grow Book, and is illustrated by the French comic artist Denis Pic Lelièvre, alias Pic. The newly released Dutch translation is brought to market by Mama Publishing from Paris, which aims to 'raise awareness for the planet of tomorrow' and is also launching this comic book version in six other languages. Pic has succeeded in transforming what is essentially a rather technical instruction book into a festive overview of everything you need to know to grow perfect vegetables from the ground without the use of chemicals, also illustrating what you encounter in garden soil and compost heaps in terms of crawling creatures. In the chapter 'Soil Life', he gives human traits to all kinds of worms, fungi, slugs, and even bacteria, making you look at that teeming microcosm with tenderness.
