Insect Collars For Cabbage

The Cabbage Collar is made of sturdy asphalt paper. These collars prevent damage by the larvae of the cabbage root fly, which becomes active from April. It lays its eggs at the base of the cabbage plant, after which the larvae burrow into the root and the cabbage plant eventually wilts or topples over. Fold the pre-cut collars around the young plants, make sure no soil gets on them and ensure a snug fit around the stem. The cabbage root fly lays its eggs on the cabbage collar, where they do not hatch. We use a sturdy thickness (cut square 14x14 cm) so that the collars can be reused many times.
