Purple Moor Grass is a grass species native to the Netherlands and Belgium. Purple Moor Grass is one of the species that play a role in the grassification of heathlands and therefore may have a negative reputation. In the garden, they are fantastic and have become famous through the gardens of Piet Oudolf. 'Windspiel' (this variety) is the tallest Purple Moor Grass of all! After a few years, a mighty, very dense clump is formed of man-high (up to 2.25 m), slightly overhanging inflorescences that adorn the tussocks from August. In autumn and winter, they remain upright and provide a beautiful winter silhouette, especially when the culms are frosted! Molinias are slow-growing grasses characterized by their long, slender, yet sturdy flower stalks, which extend high above the low-lying foliage. They have a fantastic yellow autumn color. Place them in full sun and do not fertilize them too richly, as the culms will then become weaker.
