A very hardy Japanese ornamental grass that strongly resembles bamboo. Its warm yellow leaves have a green vein and grow like a fountain: upwards, then trailing until they touch the ground again. The plant is not invasive and is also beautiful in flower boxes. Hakonechloa prefers a spot where the soil is not too dry; if necessary, mulch and water in summer. In August-October, the grass blooms with small flower plumes that barely rise above the foliage. The autumn foliage colouration is striking, a true spectacle: if the plant is in the shade, it turns yellow and orange, and in a sunny spot, even lilac-purple. This ornamental grass loses its leaves in winter.
