The leaf is divided from the center into (usually) 10 parts and forms an umbrella shape around the stem. For this alone, the plant deserves a spot in your garden!
Arisaema formosanum is a very variable genus, most of which occur in Taiwan. It is striking that all species can change sex: when the plants are young, they are male, but as they get older, they often become female. The flowers are also special due to their deep color combination: deep purple striped and with a long thread-like outgrowth on the spathe. The plants grow and bloom where other plants fail, namely in the shade. Give them a spot with plenty of humus and protect the corms from frost with extra leaf litter.

Names:
Latin: Arisaema formosanum
Dutch: Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Cobra Lily
English: Cobra Lily
