This beautiful climbing plant grows wild in the Canary Islands, where it blooms in the coolest period in not-too-warm, slightly shaded places. The bell-shaped flowers are orange-yellow with red veins, and after flowering, delicious sweet, orange fruits appear. In nature, the flowers are pollinated by birds; here, insects will do their best, but you can give them a hand with manual pollination.
Grow the plant in a sheltered spot or on the north side of your greenhouse. By the end of the year, a tuber will have formed, which must overwinter frost-free. So, mound soil generously or remove it from the soil! When the tuber sprouts the following year, the plant will be fuller and can grow taller, reaching a maximum height of about 3 m.
