The uncultivated, single-flowered form of this well-known heathland plant, selected for purity. Many medicinal applications are known. Marigold also contributes culinarily: as a natural dye (replaces saffron) and, for example, as a flavour and colour in salads. A yellow dye is made from the flowers.
