This bushy, wonderfully beautiful plant can also be grown as an annual, and with good protection, it can survive the (usually mild) winter. The best location is half a day of sun, or filtered sun. This blue to lilac-flowering plant is native to forest edges in the summer rainfall region of South Africa. It is already widely cultivated there as a decorative garden shrub. The leaves and flowers are edible, by the way.
