This is the large, original poppy or opium poppy. And it's ornamental too: large flowers in shades of white with lilac spots, later followed by large seed pods containing the blue poppy seeds. Easy to grow, harvest the seeds for baking, the plant keeps your valuable soil covered, suppresses weeds, and roots through the soil.
The Czech variety ‘Onyx’ is quite compact, contains more seeds than other varieties, and does not easily lose them during harvest due to bursting or a loose cap. Height: 75-100 cm.
