Discover this wild, popular, edible plant with a high vitamin C content and medicinal properties. You can find it in the coastal areas of the Canary Islands and North Africa, where it is known for its traditional uses in cooking, folk medicine, and as a natural aid for hand and oral hygiene.
As its name suggests, the plant can withstand sea winds and salty water. Our grower has cultivated the plants with fresh water, resulting in a softer texture. Its natural growing conditions are sandy to rocky soil. In these "harsh" conditions, the leaves are firm and beautifully curled, and it blooms with yellow umbelliferous flowers.
A wild plant is always present, so you can understand that in the Canary Islands and African coastal areas, this healthy vegetable is highly valued!
The tender stems and leaves can be eaten raw, providing a pleasant and refreshing taste. Its juicy texture and mild flavor enrich your meal.
Give the plants a sunny location, good drainage, and sufficient air circulation. Some (night) frost (provided it's not too wet!) is well tolerated.
