A true beauty from the tropics, so for us, it's a plant that can only be outdoors in summer. In Asia, it grows into a large tree, but we can easily keep them small by pruning and limiting pot size. At the top of the plant, the delightful flowers emerge in large clusters of lilac-pink blooms. The petals are very narrow at the base, giving the flowers a remarkably slender appearance. In Vietnam, the young leaves are eaten as a vegetable, and the flowers serve as elegant and edible garnishes for dishes. The older leaves, fruits, and roots are used in traditional medicine.
In winter, the plants can be kept indoors or in a cooler, frost-free place. After winter, prune and acclimatize them to outdoor conditions from late May.
