MILDEW-RESISTANT! After 10 years of research, the Ploudaniel Experimental Laboratory in Brittany has succeeded in developing this mildew-resistant variety. This saves a lot of inconvenience and pesticides in professional cultivation!
This Jersey-type, widely grown in France, has a slightly elongated, pear-shaped appearance. The skin is copper-colored and the inside is streaked with pinkish-red. The taste is suitable for the discerning French cuisine…! The storability is very good (8-12 months), we supply certified, virus and nematode-free plant material. The name Jersey refers to the supposed origin of the semi-long reddish-brown shallot. However, this is incorrect as the official ancestors of the shallot come from the Middle East, and this material was then further cultivated in, among other places, Normandy, where the semi-long shape was selected.
Shallots belong to the onion family and, like garlic, grow into a cluster of "cloves". The white interior is sometimes streaked with red and/or purple. They have a strong, rich taste. Shallots cause fewer intestinal and respiratory problems than onions and garlic. Many recipes and interesting facts can be found at www.shallot.com
