Spiral Garlic 'Krasnodar White'

  • Product number: 306268.1
  • Origin: Southern Russia, Black Sea region
  • Latin: Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon subvar. porcelain

A garlic from the Porcelain subgroup. The variety originates from Krasnodar, located in southern Russia near the Black Sea. The fairly large cloves have a lovely garlic flavor, not too hot, a blessing in the kitchen! The medium-sized harvest (better when the summer is warmer) is amply compensated by its taste!

How delicious can also be beautiful... (or vice versa). This tasty member of the garlic family grows with 1 or more curls in the stem and is (therefore) particularly decorative. Spiral garlic is called hardneck garlic in English and is generally stronger in flavor than the so-called softneck varieties.

Names:
Latin: Allium sativum var ophioscorodon subvar porcelain
Dutch: Spiraalknoflook (Spiral Garlic)
Also known as: Esculaapui
English: Serpent Garlic Hardneck

Garlic can be planted year-round, provided the cloves are in good condition. Most varieties are in stock during autumn and winter. We supply varieties that are successfully cultivated in the Netherlands. Immediately upon receipt, break open the bulb and plant the cloves in the ground: 2-5 cm deep and 10-20 cm apart. When planted in autumn, the garlic will emerge in February (or earlier), and can be harvested in June-July. Planted later, of course, means a later harvest. Harvesting is not mandatory; garlic is hardy and can simply remain in the ground. After harvesting, braid the leaves as you sometimes see garlic in stores and dry the bulbs in the sun. In a cool, dry room, they can sometimes be stored for up to a year! Cultivation is not difficult, but you can find good tips in our cultivation guide in PDF (see bottom of the website). Garlic is said to deter aphids in, for example, roses – worth a try!
