Garlic 'Uzbek Turban'

  • Product number: 306145.1
  • Origin: Central Asia
  • Latin: Allium sativum var sativum ssp artichoke subvar turban

This tasty garlic probably came to us from Uzbekistan via the US (Richard Hannan). The purple-flamed skin houses cloves that are aromatic, slightly spicy, and earthy in taste. After a fruitful year, the cloves grow quite large; you can expect a good and early harvest!

Garlic can be planted year-round, provided the cloves are in good condition. Most varieties are in stock during autumn and winter. We supply varieties that are successfully cultivated in the Netherlands. Immediately upon receipt, break open the bulb and plant the cloves in the ground: 2-5 cm deep and 10-20 cm apart. When planted in autumn, the garlic will emerge by February (or earlier), and can be harvested in June-July. Planting later, of course, means a later harvest. Harvesting is not obligatory; garlic is winter-hardy and can remain in the ground. After harvesting, braid the foliage as you sometimes see garlic in stores and dry the bulbs in the sun. Indoors, they can sometimes be stored for up to a year! Cultivation is not difficult, but you can find useful tips in our cultivation description in PDF (see bottom of the website). Garlic is said to deter aphids in, for example, roses – worth a try!
