We imported a small portion of this Okinawa Shallot from Japan and spent 3 years cultivating it to get to know the variety. Noteworthy are its narrow leaves and rather slow growth, but also its very good frost hardiness. All of this results in a remarkably delicious onion: slightly spicy, a touch sharp and sweet... In Japan, these onions are enjoyed as an appetizer or, like Edamame, with a drink. Go ahead and grow them yourself and enjoy this little wonder from Japan's southernmost island group. A nice bonus is the beautiful pink bloom.
