This versatile wild onion grows in the wild in the Altai Mountains, which connect Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, and China. The stems of this leafy onion are hollow and are delicious in salads and dishes, especially in the first months of growth! In summer, the plants bloom with thick stems and compact, bright white, globe-shaped flowers. The plants multiply easily and form tasty bulbs at the base.
Both the leaves (stems), flowers, and bulbs are edible and are highly valued by the local population in Asia. The plants like good drainage, are drought-tolerant, and are very frost-hardy!
