This beautiful, old variety was presented at the 1900 World Exhibition as the most productive and earliest of all tomatoes at that time. This highly productive tomato is still very popular; the plants remain fairly compact and the red, very aromatic fruits weigh 60-110 g (5-8 cm in diameter). The fruits have multiple locules, so in terms of shape and flesh structure, you could call them a beefsteak tomato, but due to their weight, we consider them a medium-sized truss tomato.
This group of tomatoes is intermediate in size between cherry and beefsteak tomatoes: medium-sized, in other words. Each has its own unique character. The climbing varieties ripen later than the compact varieties and are therefore more successful under rain protection: a lean-to, greenhouse, or growing tunnel.
