Delicious in a stew or finely sliced in a salad. Its faster and slightly coarser growth than regular turnip greens makes it popular with gardeners. The deeply incised leaf is tender and pungent! 'Namenia' used to be called "improved turnip greens".
In 1937, Gebr. Van Namen (Zwijndrecht, the brothers-in-law of the founder of Vreeken's Zaden) introduced this variety, which they had probably obtained from Asia. Namenia is clearly closely related to Mizuna, the Asian Turnip Greens. This variety was already mentioned in the first national variety list of 1943 and was widely cultivated for many years (in the mid-20th century).
