This historic variety originates from North-East Iran (Torbat-e Heydarieh) and has been preserved by observant biologists. Our grower found it in the USDA seed bank, where it apparently had been since 1940...
Growing it is worthwhile! The plants yield 1-2 fruits weighing 10-15 kg, which boast salmon-orange skin with silver-green stripes. The fruits can be stored for a very long time and their flavor intensifies during the first few months of storage. The orange-yellow flesh is versatile and tastes excellent, a fine pumpkin for soup!
Pumpkins can be grown outdoors without any problems. The growing tips can be pruned regularly and are edible! Harvesting during dry weather gives the best storage life. All pumpkins are edible! For some varieties, we list synonyms, which are the names by which the variety is also known. For other varieties, we list very similar varieties; if you have a clear preference for one of the varieties listed together, please specify it clearly.
