Parsnip 'Harris Model'
- Product number: 207080
- Origin: Europe
- Latin: Pastinaca sativa
In the US, where parsnips are very popular, this is the standard variety with a reliable cultivation history. New varieties are compared to “Harris”! For hobby growers, this mid-early variety is still very much loved. But commercial growers also still like to fall back on ‘Harris Model’…
Sweet, white root, cultivated for centuries. Parsnip remains have been found in Switzerland and Southern Germany during excavations from the Stone Age (9000 BC and later). Parsnip cultivation became truly popular around the beginning of the Roman era in Italy. They are quite frost-resistant; the flavour is enhanced when frost "has passed over them". Please note: in warm and sunny weather, the leaves can cause irritation during harvesting.
