The history of the Dutch melon ZoetZat: in 2012, Jan Bulthuis started with 6 different varieties from our assortment, 5 types of Cantaloupe melons and a Winter melon, which he freely cross-pollinated. One summer was very wet, and one summer had extreme cold in August. He continued to cultivate the melons that had withstood these conditions well. By 2016 (after 4 years of selection), almost all melons were very sweet and had good shelf life. Even in December, a forgotten melon was retrieved from the field that was still remarkably intact and also delightfully sweet. The selection work continues, but for 2017, we are already presenting this successful hobby variety!
