This special melon is the result of one of the many crosses between 'Noir des Carmes' and 'Prescott a fond Blanc'. First, its strong growth in the open ground is striking, then the plant survives many summer cold snaps, and even in autumn, the plant remains well intact and the fruits ripen perfectly. A good contender for our climate, then... The fruits are oval-round, light green with dark green stripes (more yellow tones when ripe) and orange flesh. The taste of fruits ripened well on the plant is heavenly and many times better than a store-bought fruit...
True Cantaloupe (Cantalupensis group) Very old, beautiful varieties. Typical is the rough, bumpy or warty skin. The fruit exudes a musky aroma and scent, the leaf is lobed and (often) heart-shaped. The flesh is orange or green and the skin is always netted. Cantaloupe is the French spelling for the Italian Cantaluppi, the estate of the popes, where in the early Middle Ages melons from the then accessible world were collected and cultivated.
