A well-known garden plant, commonly native to the USA, very easy to grow. What not everyone knows: the entire plant is edible! The tender, long, young leaves are delicious in salads; don't be alarmed by the "after-drip" of the leaves, this moisture blends perfectly with dressing. Briefly cooking it with soup, mixing it with spinach, or stir-frying are also possibilities. The stems are a delicacy as an asparagus substitute, and the (freshly picked) sky-blue flowers are delicious snacks or an elegant topping on salads. Such a "sailor blue" raw vegetable is irresistible! This perennial plant grows considerably in the garden but can also thrive (for many years) in a large pot. Give them a sunny to semi-shaded spot with sufficient water.
