Middle Eastern or Mediterranean type mini-cucumber. The skin is bright green and the fruit has a soft, mild flavor with an amazingly sweet aroma and pleasant crispy texture. No one needs to grow the American heirloom type cucumber (dark green, bumpy, prone to bitterness) when there are delicious gems like these. The thin skin is remarkably soft yet firm and has a long shelf life. The 10-20 cm cucumbers can be harvested small for pickling. When fully grown, the fruits are harvested for salads or snack cubes. The plants produce an early and remarkably large yield, even in cold weather. This selection was developed by Dr. Alan Kapuler of Peace Seeds in Corvallis, Oregon.
GENERAL INTRODUCTION CUCUMBERS:
Cucumbers, which develop long tendrils, can be pruned regularly. For outdoor cultivation (depending on the variety), a reasonable summer is needed, and all varieties grow well in a greenhouse. Sometimes it is advisable to let the plant grow outside if fruit set is not occurring! Cucumbers are usually harvested unripe, unless the skin becomes particularly beautiful upon ripening. Unripe fruits are sliced and used raw in salads; ripe fruits can be scooped out like a melon. Many small cucumber varieties or (extremely) young harvested fruits are eaten as gherkins (pickled) or as a healthy snack with a drink or meal. Pay attention to the individual descriptions of our varieties; some are purely ornamental and NOT edible!
