RARE OFFERING!
This delicately built relative of cucumbers and pumpkins grows wild in South America from Nicaragua to Peru.
A beautiful round to oval-round, bright orange mini cucumber, slightly smaller than a ping-pong ball. So pretty and yet edible, both raw and for pickling, but also in stir-fries. The fresh, sweet cucumber flavor and delightful aroma are a true discovery in your garden! The plant and its fruits strikingly resemble the Passion Fruit (Maracuja) in appearance.
GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO CUCUMBERS:
Cucumbers, which produce long tendrils, should be pruned regularly. For outdoor cultivation, a reasonably warm summer is needed (depending on the variety), and all varieties grow well in a greenhouse. Sometimes it is advisable to let the plant grow outdoors if fruit set does not occur! Cucumbers are usually harvested unripe, unless the skin becomes particularly beautiful upon ripening. Unripe fruits are sliced and used raw in salads; ripe fruits can be scooped out like a melon. Many small cucurbits or (extremely) young harvested fruits are eaten as gherkins (pickled) or as a healthy snack with a drink or meal. Pay attention to the individual descriptions of our species and varieties, some are purely ornamental and NOT edible!
