Diospyros lotus

  • Product number: 121120
  • Origin: Southern Europe, Western Asia
  • Latin: Diospyros lotus

A reasonably frost-hardy (small) tree, which also grows well in pots. Its leaves are dark green and glossy. In autumn, before the leaves fall, they turn a beautiful golden yellow. The small, green blossoms produce orange-yellow fruits 1-2 cm in diameter. These ripen to a brownish-red in a good summer and are edible! Dios Pyros literally means "pear of the gods": when ripe (or overripe), they taste divinely delicious! In Southern Europe, they are often dried and then resemble dates.
