I received this variety from Ruurd Walrecht, who told me the following characteristics and history:\n\u003cbr\u003eThe 'Amsterdamse Zoete' marrowfat pea was also called 'Vroege Hollandse' (Early Dutch) marrowfat pea and I believe it's the same as the Lathyrus-flowered marrowfat pea. For a wrinkled pea, this pea is a little less wrinkled (but still sweet enough) and has a green undertone. It is also one of the earliest peas, which is why I think an early green shelling pea like the Haarsteegse Aprildopper (of the Saxa type) is one of its ancestors. However, the variety is very old, named after the market where it was sold, namely Amsterdam, and thus cultivated in the closest horticultural area, for example, Sloterdijk. The existence of synonyms also indicates an old dating. I received the seeds from a colleague of my sister. She received them from a grower who lived on a peat island near Kudelstaart. This reclusive gardener had more old, high-quality varieties. Unfortunately, I no longer know his name. In Wageningen, I came across the variety in the books of the libraries there. It is a finer and taller plant than bush marrowfat peas: approximately 120 cm long. It blooms beautifully with lilac-pink and purple flowers and is quite large in relation to the delicate plant. The pods are green. Of all the darlings I have under my gardener's wing, this one is a favourite!
