Not many people realize that the decorative and very tasty Dragon Fruit grows on a cactus! Grow this plant in a large pot, which can overhang a pedestal or table. Nurseries in the tropics tie 1-3 shoots to a 1-3 m high pole and then prune the plants, creating productive small trees. In summer, the plants can be placed outdoors in partial sun, partial shade (to prevent scorching from the sun), preferably under a canopy if there is a lot of rain. In winter, keep them in a light, cool place and relatively dry: dormant. After years of patient cultivation, the beautiful, white flowers and pinkish-red fruits appear: when picked ripe, the white pulp with black seeds is delicious: mildly sweet, comparable to melon and kiwi!
