Broad Beans 'Aguadulce Supersimonia' 100g

  • Product number: 050255
  • Origin: Mediterranean Sea Region
  • Latin: Vicia faba

For those for whom "extra early" is less important than a very large harvest... This selection from the Aquadulce gives extra long pods with always 7, but usually 8 or 9 beans in a pod! The beans are green, medium-fine with an accessible taste.
Like the regular Aquadulce, this broad bean is suitable for early sowing or winter cultivation. You sow winter broad beans in October-November and they yield a harvest in early summer, before the aphids notice them! Sowing normally in early spring is of course also possible, the harvest will then be slightly later.

Names:
Latin: Vicia faba
Dutch: Tuinbonen (Broad Beans)
Also called: Roomse Bonen, Grote Bonen (Roman Beans, Large Beans)
English: Broad Bean

"Ik ben in de bonen" means: "I am confused." According to Van Dale's Great Dictionary of Idioms (2006), this saying dates back to an old superstition. People used to believe that broad beans, during their flowering period, emitted an intoxicating scent that could even lead to madness if one fell asleep nearby.
