A very old variety from the German Rhineland (Cologne area). The beans resemble sparrow eggs, hence the name. But the pods are also very attractive, with their beautiful marbling that is a real eye-catcher in any vegetable garden. The seeds can be dried and the pods (harvested young) can be used as broad green beans. When harvested young, a marbling just begins to show. Particularly tasty in both applications, you will experience the old-fashioned, true bean flavor!
The climbing plants produce very quickly and continue to grow and flower steadily. If they are happy, they can grow to be more than 3 meters long and fill an entire pan.
The ripe beans are white (freshly harvested) or cream-colored (after longer storage) and have dark red or purple speckles and markings.
