A versatile and very tasty bean! The first thing that stands out are the shiny, jet-black, round seed beans! The plant produces flat beans 13 cm long and 18 mm wide. When picked young, the bean is stringless, deliciously tender and exceptionally tasty! When fully grown, the bean can be shelled fresh or (when even riper) the black beans can be harvested dry: this creates the highly sought-after extremely dark dry bean. 'Coco Noir' is known for its resistance to dry soil and hot summers.
Dry beans are harvested in different ways. Some varieties are edible with the whole pod, others can only be eaten fresh or (when mature) dried. Tip for storing dry beans: to prevent any bean fly eggs from hatching, place the well-dried beans in the freezer for 24 hours.
