Beautiful blood-red flowers, this historic variety is from Dutch soil and bears long pods. Delicious in taste, harvest early! Harvested too late? Harvest the beautiful dry beans and make a delicious bean soup with them.
Runner beans are very hardy beans; use the climbing varieties as a windbreak for regular snap beans; when picked young, they are at least as tasty. If the beans hang for too long, the individual beans (seeds) can be shelled. These are known as 'potato beans'. Runner beans are also quite resistant to salty winds.
