The blueberry-like fruits of this shrub-like honeysuckle relative have a pleasant, sweet taste (with a slight tartness) and are eaten fresh (in a dessert, for example) and (for centuries) processed into jam, juice, sauce or compote: very healthy! The berry is elongated and frosted blue. The shrub, which grows to over 1.5 m tall, thrives best in the sun (to light shade) in almost any moisture-retaining soil and is not very susceptible to disease.
The (Russian) variety 'Sinoglaska' produces medium-sized fruits on fairly medium-sized plants. They ripen mid-season: approximately the last week of May-June. Plant this together with another variety as cross-pollination gives the best fruit set.
