Blue Outdoor Grape 'Cabernet Dorsa'

  • Product number: 820110.1
  • Origin: Europe, Germany
  • Latin: Vitis

This German blue grape variety is currently (as of 2022) the most successful Cabernet variety. In 1971, this grape was developed at the Staatliche Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt für Wein- und Obstbau Weinsberg in Baden-Württemberg (Germany). It is possibly a cross between the French grape Cabernet Sauvignon and the German grape Dornfelder.
Flowering occurs early, and this variety reaches full ripeness at an average time, around mid-September. The grapes are small and have a high sugar content. The only thing this variety is susceptible to is downy mildew, but it has good resistance to powdery mildew. The wine produced is full-bodied with a decent dose of tannins. The bouquet is primarily of red fruit with an aroma of cassis. The wine ripens slowly and is also used for blending (cuvée) due to its robust flavor and deep color. As a table grape, it is a delicious treat, just don't eat too much of it.

Growing a grape vine outdoors is the dream of many garden owners, isn't it?! Unlike the disappointing varieties 'Witte van der Laan' and 'Rembrandt', we offer a selection of tasty, often disease-resistant varieties, extensively tested in our climate.
Grapes can be susceptible to fungi, such as powdery mildew, downy mildew, botrytis, black rot, and red blotch. Some varieties are almost completely resistant, others have partial resistance or very high resistance to fungi. With a few sprays in the spring with organic agents (see our chapter on organic crop protection), these can be kept very healthy.
MOST VARIETIES CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED ONCE A YEAR (IN NOVEMBER OR MAY). DELIVERY TIME MAY THEREFORE BE LONG.
