A plant with many unique properties, certainly deserving a place in the garden and on the plate! The young, grey-green leaves are tender and can be used in salads; they are also delicious as spinach after a short steaming time. The plants thrive both very close to the sea and inland; remarkably, the slightly salty taste is retained even inland. Give them a sunny spot, and in wetter soils, create a mound for natural drainage and enrich the soil with some sand. A winter with 10 degrees of frost is well tolerated; colder temperatures require protection or potting and overwintering in a frost-free environment. Acidic or calcareous soil: it doesn't matter! Especially in mild winters, the plants can establish themselves well and, for example, form a beautiful hedge, as pruning and cutting are not a problem. When overwintering in a greenhouse, harvesting can continue (calmly).
